NE Cycling CIC is proud to announce the appointment of four new team members, Cillian, Alex, Izzy and Kacey, through the Tees Valley Combined Authority Trailblazer Scheme, marking a major step forward in the organisation’s mission to transform Middlesbrough Velodrome into a thriving, inclusive cycling hub for the region.
The Trailblazer Scheme is designed to create meaningful employment opportunities for young people while supporting innovative organisations to grow and deliver real impact within their communities. Through this initiative, NE Cycling CIC is investing in the next generation of talent while strengthening its capacity to deliver high-quality cycling programmes across Teesside.
The addition of Cillian, Alex, Izzy and Kacey comes at a pivotal time for NE Cycling CIC, as the organisation continues to expand its delivery across coaching, events, alternative provision, and community engagement.
Based at Middlesbrough Velodrome, the team will play a key role in: Supporting the delivery of cycling sessions for all ages and abilities, expanding school and community outreach programmes, driving marketing and engagement to grow participation and helping to develop the velodrome as a multi-use community facility. Their involvement will directly support NE Cycling CIC’s ambition to make cycling more accessible, inclusive, and impactful across the
North East.
Over the past 12 months, NE Cycling CIC has already invested significantly into the velodrome site developing it into a base for coaching, youth development, events, and community activity.
The organisation’s long-term vision is clear: To create a nationally recognised cycling hub that serves everyone from complete beginners learning to ride, to young riders progressing through performance pathways, to adults using cycling for fitness, wellbeing, and social connection.
With a growing weekly timetable of sessions, school partnerships, and community programmes, the velodrome is rapidly becoming a focal point for cycling in the region.
The Trailblazer Scheme aligns perfectly with NE Cycling CIC’s wider mission not just to develop cyclists, but to create opportunities for people. By bringing in young staff through this programme, the organisation is developing skills and career pathways in sport and community delivery, creating local employment opportunities and building a sustainable workforce to support long-term growth. This investment in people is seen as critical to ensuring the velodrome’s future success.
As NE Cycling CIC continues to grow, the organisation is actively seeking support from local businesses, partners and the wider community. There are a number of ways to get involved, Corporate partnerships and sponsorship opportunities, support for community and youth programmes, collaborations on health, wellbeing and active travel initiatives, volunteering and community engagement.
At the same time, the message to the public is simple, Get involved. Get active. Get on your bike. With sessions ranging from “Learn to Ride” and beginner track experiences to performance coaching and racing opportunities, there has never been a better time to get started.
“We’re incredibly proud to welcome Cillian, Alex, Izzy and Kacey to the team through the Trailblazer Scheme. This is a huge step forward for us as an organisation.
We’re building something really special at Middlesbrough Velodrome, not just a cycling facility, but a true community hub that creates opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.
This is just the beginning. We want businesses, partners and the community to come on this journey with us and help us make a lasting impact across the region.”
