At Middlesbrough Velodrome, our aim is to offer fun, safe, and inclusive track cycling sessions for riders of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Our Track Taster sessions are the perfect introduction to riding the velodrome. For many, it’s a bucket-list experience — but it’s also the first step on a clear pathway if you’d like to continue riding regularly or even progress into racing. If you can ride a two-wheeled bike, you don’t need to bring anything with you — bikes, helmets, and coaching are all provided. And if you’re not quite riding yet, we also offer separate Learn to Ride sessions to help you get started.

Track - Beginners
Build Confidence. Develop Skills. Get Track Ready.
This session is perfect for riders who have completed a Taster Session or are still gaining confidence on the velodrome. It’s designed to help you develop essential track skills in a safe and supportive environment before progressing onto full track accreditation.
With the guidance of a qualified coach, you’ll work on:
🔹 Riding safely and smoothly in a group
🔹 Improving control and confidence on all parts of the track
🔹 Developing key track cycling techniques
🔹 Building fitness and awareness in a track setting
Each session is structured to support your progression at your own pace, giving you the tools and experience you need to ride confidently on the track.
Track - Accreditation
Earn your accreditation and unlock the full velodrome experience.
Over the course of two structured sessions, riders will take part in a series of coached drills designed to assess their confidence, control, and group riding skills on the track.
This practical assessment focuses on key areas such as:
🔹 Safe starts, stops, and track entry/exit
🔹 Riding solo and in groups across all track lines
🔹 Spatial awareness and group etiquette
🔹 Technique drills including through-and-off, chaingang, and mock racing
🔹 Confident use of clipless pedals
The sessions are progressive and tailored to group ability. Riders who successfully demonstrate the required skills will be awarded their Middlesbrough Velodrome Track Accreditation, enabling them to take part in Structured Quality Training (SQT) sessions and track events.
📌 All riders must already be confident on the track and have a good level of fitness and bike control.
